Technical Information:
- Tempo considerations: The tempo marking for the piece is (136-144). Depending on how the piece is moving along technically, it may need to go slightly slower. However, it is important to keep the integrity of the piece with an appropriate tempo.
- The flutes and oboes have a trill in measure 16. It may be necessary to go over the concept of the trill and work on how to fit that into their musical phrase.
- In measure 18, there are staccato notes right next to accent notes. The articulation markings flip flop throughout this section quickly. It will be necessary to go over this slowly before addressing this concept at a faster speed.
- Also in measure 18, the tambourine begins to have repeated 8th notes. These could have a tendency to rush or drag.
- In measure 22, there is a contrast between the legato saxophone and horn melody, and the accented and staccato accompaniment in the fluters, clarinets, and percussion.
- The repeated figure beginning in measure 18 and going until measure 36 for the clarinets and percussion could be a challenge to count. It will be necessary to give a good cue on measure 36.
- Note Considerations:
- The tenor saxophone has a G sharp in measure 39
- The trombone has a F sharp in measure 39
- The tenor saxophone has a G sharp in measure 43
- The trombone has a F sharp in measure 43
- The percussion section has an 8th note repeated figure beginning in measure 45 and continuing to measure 59. This could be a section where rushing, dragging, or miscounting could occur.
- In measure 69, the layered entrances can make this a challenging spot for students to know when they are supposed to come in.
